Smashtoshi has launched a global auction for the first edition of “History of Bitcoin” — a limited-edition art book documenting Bitcoin’s evolution. The auction runs December 1–10 across New York, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi, with 79% of proceeds benefiting My First Bitcoin, a grassroots Bitcoin education non-profit.
A four-year collector’s project
The collector’s item features 128 original artworks created over four years, accompanied by insights from over 100 interviews with Bitcoin pioneers including Martti Malmi and Max Keiser. Artists contributing to the project include Jesse Draxler, GMUNK, and Hackatao — whose collective works have generated more than $250 million in art sales.
Craftsmanship symbolic of Bitcoin
The physical book demonstrates remarkable craftsmanship, utilizing over 40 specialized print techniques and housed in a 5,000-year-old fossilized black-oak box with a handcrafted emblem by Asprey Studio. The 256-page structure deliberately mirrors Bitcoin’s SHA-256 cryptographic foundation.
A symbolic edition run
Following this one-of-one First Edition, Smashtoshi will release 2,139 Collector’s Editions — totaling 2,140 books, symbolically referencing the year the final Bitcoin is expected to be mined. Each Collector’s Edition includes a unique fragment of Bitcoin’s original source code.
