My First Bitcoin Is Looking for Three New Board Members

Applications are open for three new members of the My First Bitcoin Board of Directors for the 2027-2028 term. Deadline: October 31, 2026.

My First Bitcoin Is Looking for Three New Board Members

My First Bitcoin is opening applications for three new members of our Board of Directors for the 2027-2028 term.

Our mission is to help create the conditions for global, independent, open-source Bitcoin education to flourish.

Behind that mission is a simple belief: every human is born with boundless potential. Education shapes how we think. Money shapes what we can build. Together, both shape the future of our communities.

That is why we believe education about money belongs where it can create the greatest impact: in local communities. Instead of building a centralized organization that tells people what or how to teach, we empower local educators to bring Bitcoin education into their own communities, adapt it to their context, and share what they learn with a global network.

As My First Bitcoin continues to evolve as an international nonprofit and global network, our Board plays an important role in protecting that mission and helping us think critically and long-term about where the organization is heading.

Now, we are looking for three people who can help us do exactly that.

Who We’re Looking For

We are particularly interested in candidates who are:

  • Subject-area experts who can bring valuable knowledge and experience to the organization.
  • Well respected and connected within their fields or communities.
  • Strongly aligned with our mission and values.
  • Independent and critical thinkers who are willing to question assumptions and bring new perspectives.
  • Long-term thinkers who can help us navigate the opportunities and challenges ahead.
  • Able to support fundraising and contribute to the financial sustainability of the organization.

Mission alignment does not mean agreeing on everything. We believe progress comes from people with different experiences and perspectives challenging ideas while respecting one another.

We want Board members who can help protect our principles while also being willing to ask difficult questions about how we put them into practice.

What Does the Board Do?

The Board helps ensure that My First Bitcoin remains aligned with its mission: creating the conditions for independent, open-source Bitcoin education to flourish around the world.

As a Board member, you will help us keep that mission on track and contribute to the long-term direction of the organization.

Board members are also responsible for contributing to the financial well-being of My First Bitcoin. This includes reviewing and approving the annual budget and supporting efforts to raise the funds necessary to pursue our mission.

The Board also evaluates the Executive Director, who reports directly to the Board.

What Is the Commitment?

This is a voluntary, non-remunerated position with a term of two years, beginning January 1, 2027.

Board members should be able to commit approximately 2-3 hours per month to Board-related activities.

This includes quarterly Board meetings and may also include subcommittee meetings, providing guidance or mentorship to operational leadership, and advocating for My First Bitcoin and its mission.

Election Timeline

Applications are open now and will remain open until October 31, 2026.

After applications close, candidates will move through several stages of review during November and early December. The full Board will ultimately vote to select three new Board members.

Selected candidates will receive onboarding materials beginning December 11, including financial information, impact reports, Board history, and other relevant documentation.

The new Board members will officially begin their terms on January 1, 2027.

Apply to Join the Board

If our mission resonates with you and you believe your experience, perspective, and network can help My First Bitcoin navigate its next chapter, we would like to hear from you.

As part of the application, we will ask you:

  • If elected, what would be your top two priorities during your tenure on the Board?
  • What makes you a good fit for this role?
  • Why do you want to join the Board of My First Bitcoin?
  • Can you commit 2-3 hours per month to Board-related activities?
  • Do you have any conflicts of interest that may affect your work with My First Bitcoin? If so, how would you manage them?

Application deadline: October 31, 2026

Help us create the conditions for independent Bitcoin education to flourish - by empowering educators and communities around the world to take ownership of it themselves.
